Bernard Peters Jr., a 22 year old who lived in San Francisco was fatally shot by Oakland Police on May 29, 2013 after a car chase that took place in East Oakland. Peters and his two friends eventually got out the vehicle and fled on foot. Police reported that they encountered Peters near Bancroft Ave / Richie St. brandishing a weapon so they responded with fatal gunfire. The dispatch recording contradicts the police narrative giving information that the handgun was recovered on the 2500 block of 77th ave. which is several blocks away from where the shooting actually took place. Very little information has been released from the investigation including witnesses to testify that they saw the officer run after and shoot Peters from behind as he fled. When police departments investigate their own criminal behavior and especially unjustified killings, they will not actively provide evidence to support their own guilt because it serves against their own interests in maintaining impunity for their crimes against communities they are sworn to "protect". Bernard "Redd" Peters is a another young black man who got cheated by a system that never invested in his future. Instead it ended his life and has suppressed the truth of his killing like countless others in this country. His name lives on through his friends and family. This design was commissioned by Larry Dorsey childhood friend of Bernanrd Peters Jr.
