Brandy Martell was a 37 year old transgender woman who was killed in downtown Oakland on April 29 2012. Brandy and her friends where socializing in a parked car that night when two men approached the car and chatted with them briefly. After they told the men they where transgender, the men walked off without incident. A couple hours later, they returned and shot Brandy killing her at the scene. 3 years later and her murder still remains unsolved. Brandy worked as a transgender peer advocate at the TransVision Center in Freemont. Her friends say she had a strong sense of humor and could impersonate anyone after five minutes of meeting them. She cared deeply of her community and was also very close to her family. Stop the hate against trans women. Remember and respect Brandy Martell.
