On April 4th 2015, Walter Scott, a 50 year old black man was shot and killed by South Carolina police officer Michael Slager during a traffic stop for a broken tail light. A video taken from a witness exposed the officer shooting Walter in the back as he ran away from him which contradicted Slager's initial version of events. Officer Slager has since been arrested and is being charged for murder. The viral video raises the obvious question of how many other cases of unjust police killings have found cops innocent due to a lack of video evidence. At the same time, the issue of police brutality runs deeper than a camera as we have seen when NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo avoided criminal charges despite being caught on video choking and killing Eric Garner.
